Important Information for First Time Freshman

Dear Student:

Welcome to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and to the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs. Our College prepares students for professional service in urban environments by offering undergraduate programs in Communications, Criminal Justice, Environmental Studies, Journalism and Media Studies, Public Administration, and Social Work.

You will need to schedule an advising session soon. However, if you believe that you are able to navigate your way through UNLV without receiving academic advising, and you do not have advanced placement, CLEP, or international baccalaureate credits, then we suggest you enroll into the following classes:

  • ENGLISH – ENG 098 or 101 or 102
  • CONSTITUTION – HISTORY – HIST 100 or POLITICAL SCIENCE – PSC 101
  • SOCIAL SCIENCES-SOCIOLOGY-SOC 101
  • NATURAL SCIENCE – ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE – ENV 101

You can contact us at the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs Student Advising Center at (702) 895-1009, (702) 895-3293 FAX, or urbanaffairs@ccmail.nevada.edu. We are located at the Central Desert Complex II, Building 11. If you do not have a student parking permit, metered parking is available nearby or you can obtain a one-day permit at the Claude I. Howard Public Safety Building.

Our website is http://urbanaffairs.unlv.edu/Advising/
You may e-mail us at urbanaffairs@unlv.edu and we will respond within one business day.

If you are in the Honors College, you should call (702) 895-2263 for advising.

The Greenspun College of Urban Affairs Student Advising Center is here to guide you through the steps necessary to meet your academic goals. As soon as you have either been advised or waived your initial advising session, you will be able to register for your classes at the appropriate time for your status and get started with your college career at UNLV.

Best of luck to you at UNLV.

Sincerely,

Adam Sikula
