Communication Studies
The Department of Communication Studies offers programs of study at the undergraduate and graduate levels designed to help students understand and improve all facets of human verbal and nonverbal interaction by improving their knowledge about communication and its uses to achieve individual, group, and societal goals.
Criminal Justice
The Department of Criminal Justice provides undergraduate and graduate degree programs designed to give students comprehensive understanding of the nature and causes of crime, criminal justice processes, criminal justice organizations and agency practices, and the law and legal system.
Environmental Studies
The Department of Environmental Studies offers undergraduate and graduate programs featuring an interdisciplinary curriculum of biophysical and social sciences to prepare students to enter any field of environmental management — from planning, conservation, and education to fishery, wildlife, and solid waste management.
Journalism and Media Studies
The Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies prepares undergraduate and graduate students to become thoughtful scholars and researchers and effective professionals in broadcast and print journalism, integrated marketing communication, public relations, and media studies.
Marriage and Family Therapy
The Department of Marriage and Family Therapy provides quality education in the theory and practice of marriage and family therapy through its undergraduate minor in family studies and graduate degree program that provides students with the essential course work required for licensure as marriage and family therapists in Nevada.
Public Administration
The Department of Public Administration offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs designed to develop in students an understanding of the governmental, social, and economic environment of public service at the national, state, and local levels by serving governmental entities, nonprofit agencies, and the citizens of Southern Nevada.
Public Affairs
The School of Public Affairs was created to assist the College of Urban Affairs in its mission to prepare community leaders and address pressing societal issues. The Ph.D. in Public Affairs prepares students to enter into academic careers or to bring research and analytical skills to the world of service and practice in the private, nonprofit, and public sectors. The degree will prepare individuals to study issues facing society in the context of public, private, and nonprofit organizations and institutions.
Social Work
The School of Social Work offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs that prepare students to practice in a dramatically changing environment with a focus on achieving social and economic justice, overcoming barriers to oppression and poverty, developing a vision to enhance services on behalf of vulnerable populations, and building a strong human services community.
