Dean Watson holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Texas at Austin. An internationally known scholar in rhetoric and women's studies, she has authored numerous academic research articles and several books, including Lives of Their Own: Rhetorical Dimensions in Autobiographies of Women Activists, A Voice of Their Own: The Woman Suffrage Press1845-1910, and Emma Goldman. She also has served as editor of the primary journal in rhetoric: the Quarterly Journal of Speech.
Prior to coming to UNLV in 1997, Dean Watson served as acting chair of the Department of Communication and associate dean of the College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Maryland. She also has held administrative positions at Auburn University, as graduate director and director of the basic course.
